DEATH ANGEL Guitarist On Upcoming Record: 'This Album Has No Lack Of Anger'

December 20, 2018

DEATH ANGEL guitarist Rob Cavestany spoke to the San Francisco Examiner about the band's forthcoming ninth album, tentatively due in early 2019 via Nuclear Blast. The follow-up to 2016's "The Evil Divide" was once recorded at AudioHammer studios in Sanford, Florida with producer Jason Suecof, who previously worked on DEATH ANGEL's last disc, as well as 2010's "Relentless Retribution" and 2013's "The Dream Calls For Blood".

"It's so close to being done," Rob said. "I was tracking until the hour of heading to the airport to fly out to Copenhagen" for DEATH ANGEL's just-completed European tour. "There is just no rest for the wicked!"

Cavestany declined to reveal the new album title and concept, but said that "given the general mayhem of humanity, as well as our love/hate relationship with the music industry (or is that hate/hate?),this album has no lack of anger. It gets dark. Really dark. But it's balanced with a hopeful, positive energy."

DEATH ANGEL's "MTV Headbanger's Ball" European tour ended December 16 in Munich, Germany, and the band will play its fifth annual Christmas shows December 21-22 at Slim's in San Francisco.

Earlier in the year, DEATH ANGEL singer Mark Osegueda told The Metal Voice that the band's next effort would be "aggressive" and "in your face," but that it would retain the musical variety of "The Evil Divide". "We always have our own little subtle nuances that we throw in that other thrash bands just don't do, and I think that's what separates us from them," he explained. "I don't know if it's a better thing, but it's an original thing, and that's what we always strive for."

DEATH ANGEL's new LP will be the band's fourth to feature its current lineup: Osegueda, Cavestany, Ted Aguilar (guitar),Will Carroll (drums) and Damien Sisson (bass).

"The Evil Divide" was released in May 2016 via Nuclear Blast.
