DREAM THEATER Singer On GRAMMY Nomination: 'If We Won? I Think I'd Be Numb'
February 11, 2012Progressive metal giants DREAM THEATER are among the nominees for the 54th annual Grammy Awards, which will be held on Sunday, February 12 at Staples Center in Los Angeles.
"I was a little speechless there for a bit," DREAM THEATER singer James LaBrie told The Canadian Press about his reaction to the news that the band was nominated. "I remember at first, I was just kind of like: 'What? A Grammy nomination? Hmm.' I just always thought that would elude us."
LaBrie will attend the Grammy ceremony with his bandmates and all of their families, including the singer's kids — 15-year-old daughter Chloe and 14-year-old son Chance. "Oh, they're freaking," LaBrie said with a laugh. "I think they'll be just pretty much up on a cloud that night, for sure."
DREAM THEATER is up against FOO FIGHTERS, MASTODON, SUM 41 and MEGADETH, the latter of whom LaBrie feels has the best shot of landing the Grammy.
"We're very grateful even to be in that category — but yeah, if we won? I think I'd be numb," LaBrie said. "But I think at the same time, too, there'd be a big part of me going: 'Yeah, right on!' This says a lot for our music and the kind of band we are. And I think it'd be a fantastic feeling and an admission to the fact that all kinds of music are being noticed and being honored."
