DROWNING POOL Singer Responds To 'Bitter' Ex-Bandmates With 'Enemy' Single

November 12, 2007

Composed of frustrated words from DROWNING POOL frontman Ryan McCombs, the resilient group's new single, "Enemy", is a long-overdue answer to bitter comments from McCombs' former bandmates in SOIL. After seven years, he parted ways with the group, eventually joining DROWNING POOL to take over the lead singer space previously left empty by the late Dave Williams, whom McCombs called a friend.

Originally citing wanting to spend more time with his family as his reason for leaving SOIL, McCombs was unprepared for the "scathing, underhanded" comments from his previous bandmates following his transition to DROWNING POOL.

"DROWNING POOL can have him," stated SOIL bass player Tim King in a July 2005 online posting. "Good luck. They should have taken AJ Cavalier [current SOIL singer] when they had the chance. Now we have the better singer and the better band."

King added, "When I hear a certain ex-singer of ours saying how close he was to Dave when he never even knew him properly or liked his album and THEN join that band when he said those shoes were too big to fill and never would do that is just plain wrong, in my opinion."

"Enemy" provides fans with a unique insight to lead singer Ryan McCombs' feelings towards his former band mates in SOIL with lyrics like "Deep inside realize never wanna be your enemy." The track, a fan favorite from the album, promises to reward DROWNING POOL's loyal fan base while continuing to attract new ones.

The video for "Enemy", DROWNING POOL's second single off their third album, "Full Circle" (Eleven Seven Music) and a follow-up to their single "Soldiers", can be viewed below. The album was produced by longtime friend Ben Schigel (CHIMAIRA, WALLS OF JERICHO),and features a collaboration track with MÖTLEY CRÜE's Nikki Sixx and BEAUTIFUL CREATURES' DJ Ashba.

"Enemy" lyrics:

The words you used were mine, used a thousand times
Doesn't make them what I've bled
I hated you, I loathed you
Though felt, I never let the words begin to spill

Make me sick 'till I can't breathe
Never want to be your enemy
Silence me, so I can't be,
Never want to be your enemy
I walk the

High road away from you
God knows what I've been through
This is the life I have, this is the life I choose
I walked away, the high road away from you
Walk away, walk away, you made an enemy

I never, I never wanted, I never wanted to poison or burn through
Labeled malcontent, by bastards of decent,
excuse this place I stand, words are to elude you

Make me sick 'till I can't breathe
Never want to be your enemy

Silence me, so I can't be,
Never want to be your enemy
I walk the

High road away from you
God knows what I've been through
This is the life I have, this is the life I choose
I walked away, the high road away from you
Walk away, walk away, you made an enemy

Deep inside realize never want to be your enemy
Change me, rearrange me, make me your enemy (Yeah)
Deep inside realize never want to be your enemy (Walk away from)
Change me, rearrange me, make me your enemy (Enemy, yeah)
Deep inside realize never want to be your enemy (Walk away from)
Change me, rearrange me, make me your enemy, your enemy
I walk the

High road away from you
God knows what I've been through
This is the life I have, this is the life I choose
I walked away, the high road away from you
Walk away, walk away, you made an enemy
