DUFF MCKAGAN Donating Song Proceeds To Medical Facility For Veterans

March 3, 2011

According to AOLNews.com, Duff McKagan (GUNS N' ROSES, VELVET REVOLVER, LOADED) is sharing the proceeds from two of LOADED's new songs, "Fight On" and "We Win", to benefit the general patient fund at the addiction treatment center Veterans Affairs Puget Sound Healthcare System.

"I got inspired by my friend Tim Medvetz," McKagan told AOL News.

Medvetz, 40, a former nightclub bouncer from Los Angeles who once rode with the Hell's Angels, nearly died in a motorcycle accident in September 2001 but bounced back — pieced together by doctors with metal rods and pins — and climbed Mount Everest, the world's highest, in May 2007. He was then featured on the Discovery Channel program "Everest: Beyond the Limit" and made it his mission to help returning war veterans scale summits with him.

"Tim really opened my eyes to how important it was to help the soldiers, no matter how I might feel about the war. So I visited some military hospitals, including the [Veterans Affairs] Puget Sound Healthcare System near Seattle," McKagan said.

"I was really struck by these young men and women. What they had been through, their stories — it affected me deeply, and it's something I can imagine being a part of for a long time. We've had some really amazing visits."
