Festival Organizer Says He Is Not To Blame For SODOM's Cancellation

May 13, 2005

Minneapolis Mayhem festival organizer John McGovern of JCM Records has issued a statement defending himself against accusations that his unprofessionalism caused German thrashers SODOM to cancel their appearance at this year's event. McGovern's statement reads as follows:

"I would like to set the record straight regarding SODOM's canceled appearance at the MM Fest II. Their official explanation has been posted on their website:

"'This is of course not because we didn't want to come to the U.S. and play for our American fans but due to a lack of professional attitude of the local promoter who failed to deliver important documents the band needs to obtain working visas. Without those visas the band is not allowed to play or even enter the States.'

"This is incorrect. I have a delievery confirmation from Federal Express in which the package containting the visa documentation was signed for on date far enough in advance not to interfere with the scheduled trip. Furthermore, the company that I employed to assist with the visas had set them up an official appointment with the U.S. embassy to finalize things after the band recieved the visa notice. I have documenation from the company to prove this as well. Once again, this was far enough in advance not to interfere with the scheduled trip.

"I do not wish to speculate why SODOM chose to cancel their appearance nor why they released incorrect information. I simply wanted to set the record straight and maintain my professional reputation."
