FIVE STAR PRISON CELL Wins 2006 MUSICOZ Award For 'Best Metal/Hardcore Artist'
November 25, 2006Aussie tech metallers FIVE STAR PRISON CELL have been honored with the 2006 MusicOz award (Australia's premier music awards for unsigned artists) for "Best Metal/Hardcore Artist". Cam [bassist Cameron Macdonald] and Mark [drummer Marc Whitworth] flew to Sydney last Tuesday and accepted the award, made a speech and got a cool statue thing," the group writes on its web site. "We have also won a film clip and a digital recording device. Thank you to everyone for their support, especially dw Norton and Faultline Records and most importantly the MusicOz awards. We were absolutely blown away by it..."
In other news, FIVE STAR PRISON CELL has issued the following update on its forthcoming "Slaves of Virgo" album:
"The new album will be out in the first week of February 2007. Choice of distribution is kind of divided. Our label Faultline Records' last few releases have been out through Shock Records — but recent times has seen the waters being tested with MGM. So, at this point it could go either way. We personally are hoping that it will be through Shock Records again, like 'The Complete First Season'. Now...we know February is still a bit of a wait. There has been talk (and this is just 'talk,' mind you — nothing is concrete yet) that 'Slaves of Virgo' will first be available earlier (around Christmas Time) on iTunes. There may also be a limited amount of pre-release copies around the same time available to buy through our website either through PayPal or via email. What you can do for us is hassle your local music shop to stock it so that when it is finally released, retailers will know that there is a buzz about it and will hopefully stock it — making life easier for those that do wish to purchase a copy. It was a nightmare with the first record — hardly any stores stocked it and most people had to order it in. As for touring: Once the CD is out, we will be touring like crazy and visiting all the places that we are yet to go and be returning to the ones we have already been."
"Slaves of Virgo" was produced by dw Norton at Back Beach studios in Rye, Victoria, Australia. A video for "Obtuse: The Essence of Indifference" is also in the works.
