Former DAMAGEPLAN Frontman Performs With JERRY CANTRELL In Houston

October 25, 2005

Former ALICE IN CHAINS guitarist Jerry Cantrell was joined onstage by former DAMAGEPLAN frontman Patrick Lachman and drummer Bevan Davies — who mans the kit in Lachman's new band, THE MERCY CLINIC in addition to playing with COMES WITH THE FALL — for five songs at the Tavern on Gray in Houston Saturday night (Oct. 22).

Commented Lachman: "Well, that was a cool gig! I didn't know about it until two days before, so sorry for the short notice. I didn't even find out until soundcheck that it was an acoustic gig! I was asked to help out because Eric [Dover, ALICE COOPER, JELLYFISH, SLASH'S SNAKEPIT, SEXTUS], who plays guitar and sings with Jerry, just had surgery on his throat about a month ago. He could sing, but just wasn't healed up enough to hit Layne's [Staley, late ALICE IN CHAINS frontman] power range on some of the songs. Of course, I was more than happy to step in

"They did a mixture of covers, some of Jerry's solo material, and the obligatory AIC classics. I came up for the last part of the set and did five songs to end the show. We started off with 'Rain When I Die', which was actually the first time EVER the song was performed acoustically. Then we did 'Down In A Hole', 'Rooster', and 'Would?'. That was also the first time I saw a mosh pit start at an acoustig gig too! Jerry stopped the song because there were some girls getting bounced around and knocked over... Gentleman Jerry.

"We closed the show with PINK FLOYD's 'Brain Damage'. What a great tune to play acoustic, especially with four guys singing harmonies. Overall it was a great time jamming with Jerry, Bev, Chris and Eric. That was also my first live show with Bevan! Who knew it would be with Jerry Cantrell? Anyway, the crowd was happy and the vibe was awesome. Wish you all could have been there to share the moment. Thanks again, Jerry!"

Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, Lachman's new band, THE MERCY CLINIC, also features in its ranks guitarists Brian Harrah (PROFESSIONAL MURDER MUSIC) and Josh Stinson (DRIST),and bassist Steed Najera (TRIPLE SEVEN). The group, who are currently unsigned, have demoed over an album's worth of material, including such cuts as "Numb" (mp3),"Drag Me Under", "We're Only Human", "The Day the Sun Refused to Shine", "Let It Burn" (mp3 clip) and "Can I Become Me?" (mp3 clip).
