Former NIRVANA Bassist To Tie The Knot?

March 8, 2004

According to an article in the Tacoma News Tribune, former NIRVANA bassist Krist Novoselic has applied for a marriage license through the Pierce County Auditor's office on Feb. 23. The female applicant is listed as 41-year-old artist Darbury Ayn Stenderu. The couple could not be reached for comment, and it was not clear whether the wedding had taken place. The soonest the couple could have legally married, according to the application, was Feb. 26.

Clerk Stacy MacFarlane recalled a strikingly tall couple walking into the crowded licensing office on Feb. 23. Novoselic, 38, is 6 feet 7 inches, and MacFarlane described Stenderu as having dark hair and being about 3 inches shorter. MacFarlane told the Tacoma News Tribune she recognized Novoselic right away.

"I was surprised that he actually came here," she said. "I didn't even say anything to him because I didn't want to be one of those fans. ... It's my job to be professional and not ask too much." Laughing, she added, "But I wanted to. ... They seemed very nice. ... They actually looked nice together."
