'Glory Is Noise' Airs Two-Hour PETER STEELE Tribute

April 15, 2011

On a very special edition of the "Glory Is Noise" radio show, host Joel Gausten (ELECTRIC FRANKENSTEIN, PIGFACE, EFFECTIONHATE) joins his wife Shannon Gausten (EFFECTIONHATE) in paying tribute to TYPE O NEGATIVE frontman Peter Steele, who passed away one year ago this Thursday. In addition to sharing personal memories of Peter and his music, the Gaustens play music from all seven TYPE O NEGATIVE albums as well as tunes from Steele's two albums with the legendary thrash band CARNIVORE.

The two-hour episode can be streamed using the audio player below.

"Glory Is Noise" is a bi-weekly show on Radio Free Satan. Each episode features host Joel Gausten offering an eclectic mix of music and exclusive interviews with mainstream and underground recording artists.

Steele passed away on April 14, 2010 from heart failure. He was 48 years old.

When asked by Revolver magazine if Peter was seriously ill before he died, TYPE O NEGATIVE drummer Johnny Kelly said, "No. It was crazy. I called his house three hours before he died. His girlfriend answered the phone. She said he was sick in bed and that he had a flu bug for a couple of days and was throwing up. So I was like, 'OK, tell Peter that Kenny and found a studio. Tell him I hope he feels better and to call me when he's up to it.' We had rehearsal with [Kelly and guitarist Kenny Hickey's current band] SEVENTH VOID that night, and I got a phone call from a number that I didn't recognize, so I let it go to voicemail. It was Peter's sister. I called her back and she said, 'We lost Peter.' I said, 'What do you mean?' And she goes, 'He's gone.'"

Steele was born Petrus T. Ratajczyk on January 4, 1962 in Brooklyn, New York. He stood 6' 7" (201 cm) tall, and had a low, bass-heavy voice, which was one of the most recognizable features in TYPE O NEGATIVE's music.

Before forming TYPE O NEGATIVE, Steele played for the metal group FALLOUT and the thrash band CARNIVORE.
