GOJIRA Frontman: Opening For METALLICA Is 'A Dream Come True'
July 10, 2009French progressive metallers GOJIRA have been tapped by METALLICA as the support act — along with LAMB OF GOD — on the first half of their North American fall tour in September and October. GOJIRA will also be headlining its own shows between METALLICA dates.
Commented GOJIRA vocalist/guitarist Joseph Duplantier, "METALLICA has invited us to open for them on the first part of their North American tour this fall. Fifteen shows around U.S. and Canada with LAMB OF GOD as main support. METALLICA has been our main influence since we started playing music, and we can say that this announcement is a dream come true."
Finland's HardcoreSounds.Net conducted an interview with Joseph Duplantier after GOJIRA's performance at the 12th annual Tuska open-air metal festival, which was held June 26-28, 2009 at Kaisaniemi in Helsinki, Finland. Watch the seven-minute chat below. Also available is performance footage of the song "Oroborus".
Universal Music Publishing has released a 135-page tablature book for GOJIRA's latest album, "The Way Of All Flesh", which can be ordered from the band's new webshop.
Since making its American debut alongside CHILDREN OF BODOM and AMON AMARTH in late 2006 in support of their landmark album "From Mars To Sirius", GOJIRA has become one of metal's most acclaimed and admired acts. The group has also toured with such heavyweights as LAMB OF GOD, BEHEMOTH, MACHINE HEAD, TRIVIUM and JOB FOR A COWBOY, and most recently, IN FLAMES and labelmates ALL THAT REMAINS.
"All The Tears", the animated video from GOJIRA, was directed by Spanish artist Jossie Malis and is "really something that fits what we want to create artistically as a band," according to Duplantier. Drummer Mario Duplantier explains: "We first came accross Jossie's work with his astounding animated films, 'Bend It To Machine' and we really liked the way he told stories in a very mysterious and unusual manner. His enigmatic animations deal with serious issues and are yet always permeated with a sense of poetry. We, as music writers, are trying to mix very different emotional atmospheres. We are happy to present a visual/audio work that gathers the sort of brutality of our music with the sensibility of his drawings."
