GUNS N' ROSES Breaks METALLICA's Attendance Record In Gothenburg, Sweden
July 24, 2018According to IQ Magazine, GUNS N' ROSES has broken the attendance record for a hard rock/heavy metal act at Gothenburg, Sweden's Ullevi Stadium. The band's July 21 concert was attended by 64,289 people, surpassing the record previously set by METALLICA (63,036 attendees).
Pollstar previously reported that the 2016 and 2017 legs of GUNS N' ROSES' "Not In This Lifetime" tour grossed a combined $480.9 million from 125 performances around the world.
GUNS N' ROSES recently kicked off its first tour of 2018, a 19-show European trek that included performances at Download festivals in Paris, Madrid and the United Kingdom.
About seventy people travel with the "Not In This Lifetime" show in addition to the truck drivers; that number goes upwards of five hundred, including the local workers, by show date once catering, security, etc. are factored in, according to the GN'R tour's production manager, Dale "Opie" Skjerseth.
GUNS kicked off its long-rumored and long-awaited reunion tour in April 2016 with a club show in Hollywood and appearances in Las Vegas and at California's Coachella festival.
The "Not In This Lifetime" tour features classic lineup members Slash (guitar),Duff McKagan (bass) and Axl Rose (vocals) backed by guitarist Richard Fortus, drummer Fank Ferrer, keyboardist Dizzy Reed and new second keyboardist Melissa Reese.
Despite the success of the tour, there has been no indication that GUNS intends to record a new album anytime soon. The last GUNS studio album, "Chinese Democracy", came out in 2008 and featured only Axl Rose from the band's classic lineup. The last album on which Rose, McKagan and Slash appeared together was 1993's covers set "The Spaghetti Incident?"
