HATEBREED Frontman Says New Album Will Be More 'Personal'
November 30, 2005Michael Melchor of 411Mania.com recently conducted an interview with HATEBREED frontman Jamey Jasta. Several excerpts from the chat follow:
On hosting MTV2's "Headbanger's Ball":
"I even told [MTV] in the beginning, before I got the job, 'Even if you play double what you used to play as far as real heavy metal goes, that's better than nothing.' But they've been really cool. And that's the thing — before 'Headbanger's Ball' a band like SHADOWS FALL was selling not a quarter of what they are now. It's had an amazing positive effect. We've played with a lot of these bands [featured on the show], but it's another thing to hang out them or to say, you know, 'play this video' or 'get this band on and let's do an interview' or whatever...it's been really cool to be able to give back to the metal community."
On the upcoming HATEBREED album:
"When we went out on this tour, we wanted to do two new songs. One didn't work out during soundcheck, so we've been sticking with one (although the other we may bring back and do live now). We're still working on it now and it should be out next May or June.
"['The Rise of Brutality'] was based more on the travels and seeing the world and the injustice in it. That's what inspired that just because I needed to comment on it. I figured, 'I'm in a band; this is what I do — let's take some of the personal stuff out and talk about what's going on.' But I think the next one's going back to more of the personal route. After what's gone on the last 2-3 years, the new one is going to reflect all the ups and downs. I really felt like — that whole period of time, I felt like I wasn't living by my own advice anymore. I'm not living by my own lyrics. I'm letting myself be defeated and that's not what I'm about. So, that's what the new record's gonna reflect. It's not about how many times you fall, it's about if you’re going to get back up. You can only take so many setbacks and the last three years got me to this point where we're ready to do a new one that's going to be even more on fire."
