Heavy Metal's Premier Guitarists Pick Their Dream G3 Lineups

July 14, 2004

Norway's Imhotep zine recently asked more than 100 guitarists to choose their own dream G3 lineups. "The respect that the guitar players have for Joe Satriani and Steve Vai is a proven fact," writes the magazine's Thiago Pinto Corrêa Sarkis (also of Brazil's Whiplash). "Anyway, talking with some musicians, I could realize that the G3 is not that unanimous. So, before affirming that this G3 as a dream coming true to most of the guitarists, I thought it would be great to hear from them which artists they would like to see on the G3 and sharing the stage with themselves. And then came the question: 'If you could start a project like the G3... besides you, mention two guitarists that you would like to share the stage with.'

"There were no limits to this question. I wanted to have the opinion of the musicians and not of the guitarist of a style. It doesn't matter if the artist plays instrumental guitar, melodic, thrash, power, traditional, death, black metal, stoner rock, whatever... if he/she was a shredder or not. This was not about styles or skills.. at least, not only. This is about tastes and you will find some very interesting line-ups, unexpected G3s, and some different looks concerning the guitar celebration."

Among the guitarists that took part in this "survey" were following:
