TAPROOT: Moving Away From The Nu Metal Thing
July 14, 2004TAPROOT drummer Jarrod Montague has posted the following update on the group's official web site:
"Hello all. Well, we are STILL here in L.A. writing new stuff for the record. As I told you before, we have been continuing to write new stuff just about every day, and some of the best stuff yet has come out in the last month or so. Steve [singer Stephen Richards] has really been working hard to make the songs the best they can be and he's come up with some vocal stuff that gives me the chills on every listen. I know you guys have been waiting soooo long for this record and we've waited soooo long to record it, but I think when you hear the material, you'll realize that we've reinvented ourselves several times and will hopefully understand where we're coming from. When you hear all the different things that are going on in music right now, it would be way too easy to just fall into one of the genres that is 'working' right now, like the STORY OF THE YEAR/THRICE/YELLOWCARD thing, or the JET/FRANZ FERDINAND type thing. But, as you'd expect from TAPROOT, I think we've found our own twist on something new — we've gotten as far away from the nu metal thing as possible and that will show.
"As far as our schedule goes, we basically try to write some new stuff every day. Some days we're creative, some days we're not. But I think we have all the songs we need for an amazing album. The tentative plan is to start serious rehearsals/preproduction for the record in the next couple weeks, and hopefully get in the studio sometime in September. Please continue to be patient with us."
