JIMMY PAGE Honored At 'Nordoff Robbins O2 Silver Clef Awards'

July 7, 2014

Legendary LED ZEPPELIN guitarist Jimmy Page was honored with the prestigious Silver Clef Award at the Nordoff Robbins O2 Silver Clef Awards in London on Friday, July 4.

Nordoff Robbins is the U.K.'s leading provider of music therapy services, helping adults and children who suffer from autism and dementia and who have had strokes open up and connect to their surroundings with music.

Speaking to Absolute Radio at the event, Page said (see video): ""Why it's so important…. How do I put this into words for people who don't know? Nordoff Robbins have managed to have some programs that really get through to children [that are] autistic... It goes through from really young children through to old people with Alzheimer's. They've managed to work on programs to help people who are very withdrawn. And the communication of music and the power of music is something that's wonderful to behold, to see the results that they've got. And they're not gonna stop; they haven't stopped working for a number of years on this, and they're just developing it all the time."

The annual Nordoff Robbins O2 Silver Clef Awards has been sponsored by O2 for the past ten years and is now the jewel in the Nordoff Robbins fundraising crown and the highlight of the UK music industry's calendar. Past award recipients have included U2, THE ROLLING STONES, Ozzy Osbourne, Sir Paul McCartney, THE WHO, COLDPLAY and KAISER CHIEFS.

CAA's Emma Banks, Chairman of the Nordoff Robbins O2 Silver Clef Committee said: "Ask anyone, 'Who is the greatest guitar player of all time?' and it wouldn't take long before you hear the name Jimmy Page. Truly a legend, we are deeply honored that Mr. Jimmy Page [agreed to] join us to receive the O2 Silver Clef Award."

Nuala Donnelly, Sponsorship O2 said: "It's a real honor to have Jimmy Page accept the O2 Silver Clef Award this year. There is no doubt that his support for the charity back in 1990 helped to raise the profile of the outstanding work that Nordoff Robbins do and it is a pleasure to be recognizing such a huge talent and bonafide music legend."
