LIMP BIZKIT's DURST Working On Solo Project
May 11, 2003LIMP BIZKIT frontman Fred Durst recently told Rolling Stone magazine that he's been working on a solo project. "It's called PACIFICA," he said. "It's very Eighties. I don't want to say it sounds like HOWARD JONES or A FLOCK OF SEAGULLS. Maybe it sounds like DURAN DURAN or SOFT CELL — this will be a more polished, modern takeoff of those things. Aesthetically and cosmetically, there was so much freedom in the Eighties: hair-sprayed hair to stupid ties to tight jeans. Everything was OK."
As previously reported, LIMP BIZKIT's long-awaited new Flip/Interscope album, now supposedly called "Panty Sniffer", will be out "for sure the first week in September," according to Durst. The CD seemed ready for release in May, but after BIZKIT finally named Mike Smith (ex-SNOT) as the replacement for guitarist Wes Borland, the group scrapped the finished tracks and began working on new material.
The original plan called for the album to be released in time for the July 4 kickoff of the Summer Sanitarium tour, which features LIMP BIZKIT alongside METALLICA, LINKIN PARK, DEFTONES and MUDVAYNE. Durst now insists an as-yet-unnamed single will be issued beforehand.
