LIZZY BORDEN Singer Comments On Last-Minute Spanish Festival Appearance

June 26, 2009

Californian metallers LIZZY BORDEN received a call last week to see if they would be able to play a festival in Spain with MÖTLEY CRÜE, ANTHRAX, BUCKCHERRY and more.

Commented LIZZY BORDEN singer/namesake: "Wednesday morning I got a call asking if we wanted to play the Kobetasonik festival in Bilbao, Spain on Saturday. I wasn't sure that we could do the show because my passport just expired the day before. I spent the whole day at the federal building on Thursday not knowing if they would renew my passport or not; they just kept saying we will do our best. I finally got it in my hands at 5:00 that night; we flew out for Spain the next morning.

"We arrived at the festival at around 4:00 in the afternoon on Saturday scheduled to play at 8:15 that night. Only one problem: the airline lost all of our luggage. We finally tracked it down and they said they were flying it in and it would all be there in time for the show.

"While we frantically waited for our luggage, we watched BUCKCHERRY, PAPA ROACH, and ANTHRAX — all really great shows!

"With only minutes to spare, our gear finally arrived. A quick line check, smear on some stage make-up and without any rehearsal at all, hit the stage and belted out 65 minutes of American metal the LIZZY BORDEN way.

"We all had a great time on stage. The audience in Bilbao Spain was screaming loud all the way through and in the end, turned out to be a great surprise show for us and them. We met a lot of new friends backstage and with all of the bands being in the same building, it turned out to be a really cool party. And at some point I think we dove into the Jagermeister (maybe a little too much) and wandered out in the audience to watch MÖTLEY CRÜE. After a few minutes, we got recognized and had a BIG party in the crowd with a lot of our new friends from Bilbao.

"I want to thank everyone at the festival for treating us so well… We can't wait to come back, hopefully next time more than two days' notice."

A photo of the brand new LIZZY BORDEN lineup — featuring the group's latest addition, 19-year-old guitarist Dario Lorina — can be viewed below. The picture was taken by photographer Alex Solca backstage at the Whisky A Go Go in Hollywood, California right before the band's performance at the Michelle Meldrum memorial/benefit concert on May 26.

LIZZY BORDEN's current lineup:

Lizzy Borden - Vocals
Marten Andersson - Bass
Chris Sanders - Guitar
Joey Scott - Drums
Dario Lorina - Guitar

At age 16, Lorina was recognized for his passion and what some may call exceptional talent, and began touring with multi-platinum songwriter and WARRANT frontman Jani Lane. During that time Dario strongly created a reputation and name for himself as a player and gained the respect of many, thus giving him the opportunity to play with various notable artists. Dario has been touring consistently throughout the USA and Europe since 2006.

Guitarist Ira Black announced his departure from LIZZY BORDEN in February. The axeman, who previously played with METAL CHURCH, VICIOUS RUMORS and HEATHEN, recently joined PROPHESY, the new U.S./German group featuring vocalist Brian O'Connor (ex-VICIOUS RUMORS) and guitarist Fabian Schwarz (PARADOX, RUNAMOK, THE NEW BLACK).
