METALLICA's ROBERT TRUJILLO: 'There's No Shortage Of Ideas When We're Writing Songs'
August 18, 2015METALLICA bassist Robert Trujillo was interviewed by PX TV prior to the band's June 6 performance at the X Games in Austin, Texas. You can watch the chat below. A couple of excerpts follow (transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET).
On how METALLICA manages to maintain such a high energy live with its live performances:
"I think what happens is when we put the instruments on, we actually feel… I mean, I don't know if 'younger' is the right word; I mean, we're all… I'm 50, [and] I'm the young guy in the band, okay? But, you know, there's no shortage of ideas when we're writing songs. I think the problem is having too much, you know what I mean?"
On how proud he feels to be a Latino member of METALLICA, the biggest rock band of our generation:
"I'm very proud. And I always say this: there's passion all over the world. There is. There's passion in Scandinavia, there's passion in Asia. There's passion in Europe. We just came from Europe. It's so incredible and beautiful. And I tell you, when I go down to Mexico, or even further south, like [when] you get down to Argentina and Brazil, it's just fueled with passion."
As previously reported, METALLICA has joined forces with ESPN and Circuit Of The Americas to assist the victims of the recent floods in Texas by donating all money raised from the sale of downloads of the band's show at the X Games to the American Red Cross of Central Texas. All formats of the download, including the high definition versions, were offered at LiveMetallica.com for the very deeply discounted price of $5.00 each through July 15.
Despite insisting that work has been proceeding on a new album, METALLICA has spent a lot of time outside the studio in the last year, with activities that included a string of European all-request shows last summer, a week-long residency on "The Late Show With Craig Ferguson", and the Rock In Rio USA stint in early May.
