NAMM's International Fastest Drummer Contest Announced

January 5, 2007

NAMM International has announced its fifth annual quest to find the "World's Fastest Drummer." This highly charged interactive event will be a feature at this year's NAMM Winter Session in Anaheim, Ca. The contest, which consists of two categories, "Fastest Hands" and "Fastest Feet," will be held each day in NAMM's Exhibit at Booth #1897 Hall 'E' starting at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 18 with "heats" continuing through Friday and Saturday until 4:00 p.m. The top ten "Fastest Hands" and top ten "Fastest Feet" will compete in a "Finals Battle" of both categories held on NAMM's main outside stage at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, January 21. Included in this year's event will be technical demonstrations, insight sessions and appearances by WFD champions Mike Mangini, Johnny Rabb, Matt Smith, and Tim Yeung. (NOTE that WFD champions are NOT competing in the contest and are ineligible for prizes.) "To see these guys go at it, full-throttle, smooth as silk with their hands and feet moving over 19-20 times per second for an entire minute is simply an amazing work of technical proficiency," says Boo McAfee, co-founder of Extreme Sport Drumming. Also appearing will be winners of the Miss WFD Anaheim 2006 title, Mystery Hangup's Cat and Lux. All contestants for both "Hands" and "Feet" competition will be scored on playing single strokes (no bounces, presses or buzz) for ONE MINUTE and recorded by the Drumometer. Grand prizes for this year's contest include two Pearl drum sets, a year supply of ProMark drum sticks (with winner's name),two sets of Meinl cymbals, Axis longboard 'A' double pedal, 50 Remo drum heads, year subscription to Drum! and more. Contestants should sign in at NAMM International Fastest Drummer Contest stage area located at booth #1897 Exhibit Hall 'E' starting the morning of Thursday, January 18.
