New ANTHRAX Singer To Guest On 'Hard Files' On Thursday

January 8, 2008

New ANTHRAX singer Dan Nelson (Photo#1, Photo#2, Photo#3, Photo#4) will guest on the "Hard Files" program on Sirius Satellite Radio's Hard Attack on Thursday, January 10 at 7:00 p.m. EST. Rebroadcasts: Fridays at noon ET, Saturdays at 3:00 p.m. ET and Sundays at 6:00 p.m. ET. "Listen to hear the entire story of how Dan went from local New York band to fronting one of the world's most dominating metal acts. Plus you'll hear [Sirius host] Jose [Mangin] challenge Dan to a Sirius ANTHRAX trivia challenge to see if he really knows his s**t about the band he just joined."

Erin Carlson of The Associated Press recently conducted an interview with Nelson. A few excerpts from the chat follow:

On going from being a part-time singer and personal trainer from Long Island to becoming the new frontman for ANTHRAX:

"The other night my friends took me out for dinner and one of them bought me 'Rock Star' as a joke. So I watched it and it was weird — the whole beginning of the movie is similar to what's happened."

On whether he — like Mark Wahlberg's character in "Rock Star" — plans to trash hotel rooms once he hits the road:

"No, I'm not that type. I'll be trashing stages. Every stage I play I'll be destroying."

On being told he had the ANTHRAX gig a month after he auditioned for the band in late October:

"I was in shock. I'm still in shock. I mean, who am I kidding? You know, I'm the luckiest guy in the world."

"It's gone from the excitement and disbelief to 'OK, let's go.' I want the next thing. I want to get in the studio. I want to record the album. I want to be on the road. I can't wait for that. It's my dream to do that — and I can't wait."

On wanting to honor ANTHRAX's legacy, but also stay true to himself:

"I like to think I have my own voice, but a lot of people are saying I'm very similar to (former singer) John Bush. Which is a HUGE compliment since John Bush is a metal god. And people keep asking: Are you going to fill John Bush's shoes? Let me make one thing clear: No way. John Bush is the man. I'm looking to do a re-start with ANTHRAX the same way John did when he took (Joey Belladonna's) place."

A song from Nelson's previous band DEVILSIZE, titled "Taken", can be heard at this location. Four more DEVILSIZE tracks featuring Nelson"The Way", "Explode", "Brooding" and "Freedom's Wings" — are available for streaming here (click on the play button to the left of each songtitle to launch audio).
