OZZY OSBOURNE Is An Old Friend And Fan Of LESLIE WEST And MOUNTAIN

March 24, 2005

Launch Radio Networks is reporting that Ozzy Osbourne's got a hit on his hands with his cover of "Mississippi Queen". The MOUNTAIN song is just one of the favorites he recorded for his new box set "Prince of Darkness", which came out this week. The track features guitar work from MOUNTAIN leader Leslie West, and Osbourne told Launch that he's always been a fan. "Well, Leslie West and I, and MOUNTAIN, go back many years," Ozzy said. "In fact, the very first American tour that BLACK SABBATH ever did, way back in, I think, 1971 or 1970, we opened the show (for MOUNTAIN). I've had a soft spot for Leslie when he was big, when he was bad, when he was on heroin, when he was not on heroin, when he... MOUNTAIN were, were, and still are, one of my favorite bands, and 'Mississippi Queen' was always one of my favorite songs. And then Sharon says, 'You know, we got Leslie West to play on it,' and I was like, 'You're joking!'"

Other songs that Osbourne covered on the box include MOTT THE HOOPLE's "All the Young Dudes", with MOTT frontman Ian Hunter making a guest appearance, the ROLLING STONES' "Sympathy For The Devil", THE BEATLES' "In My Life", BUFFALO SPRINGFIELD's "For What It's Worth", and KING CRIMSON's "21st Century Schizoid Man".
