OZZY OSBOURNE's Son JACK Says He Learned Addictions From Dad

September 26, 2006

Mirror.co.uk has published an excerpt from Jack Osbourne's upcoming autobiography in which he tells how dad Ozzy's boozing and drug-taking led him to addictions of his own — and a crushing despair that made him decide to kill himself in a lonely hotel room in New York.

"Ever since I was old enough to understand it, I've known that my dad was an alcoholic and a drug addict," Jack writes. "I never realised that his addictions weren't normal. I just thought that it was what dads did.

"I'd see my dad taking pills, and I would go to the shop and buy myself a box of Tic Tac mints. Then I would bring them home and swallow them down — just to be like him.

"On my 13th birthday, I discovered the joys of drinking. I was able to get my hands on a few shots of whiskey and, unlike most people, I quite liked my first taste and I got drunk for the first time.

"As I reached the age of 14, I started drinking on a more regular basis — once a month, maybe, at friends' houses. And I started smoking pot, too. I found myself doing it once in a blue moon. Then every weekend.

"That year I started work with Dad's label, Sony Music's Epic, doing A&R talent scouting. A few nights a week I'd go to shows at rock clubs in Los Angeles and check out the bands. I was having a ball."
