PHILIP ANSELMO Interviews ANVIL For VH1 Classic's 'That Metal Show'; Video Available

October 8, 2009

Video footage of Philip Anselmo (DOWN, PANTERA) interviewing Canadian metal legends ANVIL for the one-hour season premiere of VH1 Classic"That Metal Show" can be viewed below. The chat was conducted at the 2009 installment of the U.K.'s Download festival — which was held June 12-14 at Donington Park — where Anselmo also joined ANVIL during their June 13 performance on the Tuborg Stage to sing the chorus to the song "Winged Assassins" (see bottom clip below).

"Holy fucking shit man, it only took me 27 years to get back here," said grinning frontman Steve "Lips" Kudlow to the crowd, referring to the time ANVIL performed at the site's Monsters Of Rock festival in 1982.

According to NME.com, Lips introduced "Metal On Metal" as "the national anthem of metal" and told a story about the song "White Rhino" being named after the band's "favorite brand of pot." "White Rhino" also featured a lengthy drum solo from drummer Robb Reiner.

The band finished their hour-long set with "Mothra", during which strobes flashed and Kudlow played his Flying V guitar with a bottle of water.

ANVIL's setlist was as follows:

01. March Of The Crabs
02. This Is Thirteen
03. 666
04. School Love
05. Jackhammer
06. Winged Assassins
07. Forged In Fire
08. Race Against Time
09. White Rhino
10. Metal On Metal
11. Mothra
