PSYCROPTIC Drummer On Next Album: 'It's Very Catchy Stuff, But Still Intense'
February 14, 2008Aedan Siebert of Australia's The Metal Forge recently conducted an interview with PSYCROPTIC drummer Dave Haley. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow:
On how the songwriting process for the new album is coming along:
"It's going well! All the music is in the final stages of being completed and it looks like we'll start tracking the album in March. We're really happy with how the material has come together — It's still PSYCROPTIC, but I think out songwriting has improved. It's very catchy stuff, but still intense. Some stuff isn't as technical, other stuff is. We have tried to make it varied but still sound like an album — not just a mish-mash of songs. We're quite excited about it all!"
On whether overseas support is necessary for Australian fans to survive:
"Well, there are plenty of acts that do just fine only in Australia so I guess it's really up to the individual act and their goals. For smaller fan base genres like metal it's a bit more important to establish a fan base internationally due to the limited fan base here. I guess it's really up to how each act sees things really. For us we don't wish to be limited to just one market, or try to be 'king of the hill' in our home country."
On the Australian metal scene:
"It's quite good; there is a lot of talent around. People really need to get out to local shows as there are some killer bands on the scene. It always surprises me that some of the not-so-good international bands that come through can get two and three times as many people as some of the more established Australian bands. People also need to stop caring about what 'scene' which bands is from. Who gives a fuck?! A good band is a good band regardless of their tag. Bands also need to start taking more pride in what they do. Just because your Australian does not mean you're not as good as your U.S. or European counterpart — start giving yourself some credit!”
