SACRED REICH Frontman Lays Out His Political Concerns

September 25, 2008

Bassist/vocalist Phil Rind of the reactivated Arizona thrashers SACRED REICH, who recently released a pro-Barack Obama audio message on the band's MySpace page, has issued the following update:

"A few things disturb me.

"The tax issue. Obama's tax plan marginally increases taxes for people making over $200,000 a year. It is very similar to the Clinton plan which led to the biggest expansion of the economy we've seen, and resulted in a budget surplus. It is not socialist, it is fiscally responsible. Does anyone out there spend more money than they make and then borrow more money to spend? The current administration has been doing it for over seven years.

"National Defense: The tragedy of 9-11 falls squarely on the shoulders of this administration. Bush has yet to bring Osama Bin Laden to justice. Instead of focusing on this task he diverted our energy towards Iraq and lied to us about his reasons for starting the war. He has mismanaged the Iraq war and by stretching our troops thin he has created a window of opportunity in Afghanistan for Al Qaeda to come back to prominence. Wasn't this our true focus in the first place?

"The Economy: The hands-off, deregulation, laissez-faire attitude towards big business is what helped create the financial problems we are encountering. Instead of addressing these issues over the last seven years the Bush administration put their head in the sand. Now it will cost the taxpayers 700 BILLION dollars to fix? Add that to the already out of control deficit (thanks to W.) and the mismanagement of the economy during the Bush years will be a legacy that generations to come will be paying for.

"Future: I can't see how a 72-year-old career politician who is a hawk and deregulator is going to get us out of Iraq, and steer the economy in the right direction. What is his vision for the country's future? His energy plan is mired in old ideas and lacks the vision to ensure energy independence, environmental responsibility, and create jobs for a better future.

"These are my concerns as a citizen and a parent. There seems to be a lot of untruths out there. Check the facts."

Metal Blade Records released a three-disc deluxe reissue of SACRED REICH's "Ignorance" and "Surf Nicaragua" in June 2007. Two CDs are included in the package (both remastered!) as well as a bonus DVD. The package, which was made available in Europe only, includes liner notes by Rind and Malcolm Dome (Classic Rock, Metal Hammer, Total Rock Radio) and an extensive booklet with loads of previously unpublished photos.
