SAMMY HAGAR Responds To Recent Issues Surrounding Cabo Wabo Cantina In Fresno

November 8, 2008

Entrepreneur and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Sammy Hagar has released a statement in response to issues presented by local news media regarding the newly opened Cabo Wabo Cantina in Fresno, California.

He says, "Given the controversies reported in media surrounding the Cabo Wabo Cantina in Fresno, I want to be very clear on one point — the Cabo Wabo Cantina in Fresno is not owned or run by me or anyone associated with the Cabo Wabo organization. Everyone in Fresno should be aware that the restaurant is owned and operated by a licensee, Fresno Rock Taco, LLC, which is controlled by Milton Barbis. I am in no way associated with the Granite Park development project.

"Through our licensing agreement, I have granted the use of the Cabo Wabo name and logo, as well as my name and image to Fresno Rock Taco, LLC. If Mr. Barbis cannot meet the established guidelines for use of those trademarks, I am well within my rights to cancel the contract with his company. I hope I do not have to take such drastic actions as I would like the community of Fresno and the San Joaquin Valley to enjoy Cabo Wabo, but not at the expense of those who have worked to bring this to the area.

"I understand that contractors involved in the Cabo Wabo Cantina project claim they have not been paid for work, and, frankly, I cannot understand how this could be possible given that Cabo Wabo is a huge success but, despite that, I am not happy with what I have been hearing. I pride myself in being true to my fans and associating my name with quality business ventures. For all those parties involved, I truly hope that the issues at hand can be resolved quickly and that the Cabo Wabo patrons will not be negatively impacted. Nothing is more important to me than protecting the fans who have embraced me for more than 40 years in the music business."

Hagar entered into the licensing agreement with Fresno Rock Taco LLC on December 7, 2006. The Cabo Wabo Cantina officially opened its doors on August 29, 2008. Last week, Sammy Hagar played a free concert at the venue for nearly 1,000 Fresno-area fans.
