SERJ TANKIAN, TOM MORELLO Celebrate War Film Release At South By Southwest

March 17, 2008

The Pulse of Radio reports: Serj Tankian (SYSTEM OF A DOWN) and Tom Morello (RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, AUDIOSLAVE) brought some rock star firepower to the South By Southwest Music and Media Festival last week as part of a special concert to celebrate the release of the new documentary "Body Of War". Tankian performed a solo set, accompanying himself on piano, while Morello performed as his protest-singing alter ego THE NIGHTWATCHMAN, with a five-song set that included a bluesy cover of RAGE's "Guerrilla Radio" and a finale of Woody Guthrie's "This Land Is Your Land" on which he was joined by Tankian, Billy Bragg, and others who took part in the concert.

"Body Of War" tells the story of Tomas Young, a paralyzed Iraq war veteran who has been speaking out in opposition to the conflict. The film premiered as part of the SXSW Film Festival and is opening on a rolling basis throughout the country.

Tankian and Morello are among the artists who contributed tracks to the companion album "Body Of War: Songs That Inspired An Iraq War Veteran", which comes out tomorrow (Tuesday, March 18). PEARL JAM's Eddie Vedder wrote an original piece for the soundtrack, and NEIL YOUNG, BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN, and BRIGHT EYES also appear on the album. Proceeds from sales will go to the Iraq Veterans Against The War.
