SIX FEET UNDER Frontman Explains 'This Is Our Reign In Blood' Remark

SIX FEET UNDER frontman Chris Barnes has issued a statement clarifying his description of the group's upcoming album, "13", as "our 'Reign in Blood'."

In a press release issued earlier today via the group's record label, Metal Blade Records, Barnes said of SIX FEET UNDER's upcoming album, "I have been listening to this CD at least four times a day since we completed it and I am now convinced that it is our 'Reign in Blood' [referring to SLAYER's groundbreaking 1986 album — Ed.]. The proof is in the pudding and pretty soon... you'll be face-first in it. It's fucking insane — believe it."

Responding to detractors who were quick to use his own words against him, Barnes quickly issued a follow-up statement elaborating on the comparison between SIX FEET UNDER's new CD and what is widely considered to be the greatest thrash metal album of all time.

"Let me clarify my 'This is our 'Reign In Blood'' statement I recently made about our upcoming CD, '13', to be released on March 22 through Metal Blade Records," Barnes said. "When I said 'This is our 'Reign In Blood',' it was just another way of saying, 'This is our best CD to date' — just as when 'Reign In Blood' came out it was SLAYER's most exciting, fresh and heaviest record since they began the band. I, in no way, shape, or form, meant to suggest that '13' is better than, sounds like, or is as groundbreaking, or will be remembered with as much regard in the history of metal as 'Reign In Blood'.

"To clarify for those of you who don't get it, and for those of you who are quick to dismiss us, let me break it down once again... in my opinion this is our best most exciting work since 'Maximum Violence' and I am thoroughly excited and proud of what we did on this CD. And to those who doubt us, you would doubt us no matter what. And to our fans — you wont be disappointed."
