SLIPKNOT DJ's 'Nightmare Before Christmas Party' Gets Shut Down By Police

December 22, 2006

Kyle Munson of DesMoinesRegister.com reports that the "Nightmare Before Christmas Party" — organized by the Des Moines collective of DJs known as the Sound Proof Coalition that includes SLIPKNOT member Sid Wilson (a.k.a. DJ Starscream) — planned for Friday night and Saturday morning in downtown Des Moines has been canceled.

The Sound Proof Coalition planned the event as a mixture of electronic music, live bands and hip-hop — to start at 9 p.m. Friday at Soulstice Photography, 1109 Grand Ave., and run until 4 a.m. Saturday.

Wilson said that Des Moines Police contacted the owners of the building, which led to the cancellation.

"At least they let us know ahead of time," Wilson said. "I was just kind of thankful that they didn’t come to the party and stop it at the party."

"Our next avenue would be to plan another event within tolerable hours," he added. "It's just a shame that we can’t do live music till 4 in the morning, but you can go watch girls get naked [at a strip club] till 4 in the morning."

Police Sgt. Todd Dykstra said that he had no information on officers contacting organizers of the party but would make inquiries.

"There's an inherent problem we believe, at the police department, with after-hours parties," Dykstra added.

Earlier this month the Des Moines City Council approved an ordinance placing tighter regulations on after-hours nightclubs where alcohol is involved. The "Nightmare Before Christmas Party" was publicized as a BYOB event for those 21 and older.
