SMASHING PUMPKINS 'Suck' In New York City

November 10, 2008

According to The Pulse of Radio, a SMASHING PUMPKINS concert in New York City on Thursday night (November 6),the band's first in the metropolitan area in nine years, was met with a less than enthusiastic reception by the crowd after Billy Corgan led the band through a show that left many hits off the set list and contained a droning, 40-minute jam session in the middle. Even Corgan himself said near the end, "Did I pay for this shit?", presumably mocking what he thought the fans were feeling.

Video footage of one SMASHING PUMPKINS fan who was heckling Billy coming up on stage at the band's November 7 concert (the second of two shows at United Palace Theatre) and "bitching about how bad the show last night and tonight sucked" can be viewed below.

The PUMPKINS kicked off their 20th anniversary tour on October 31 in Columbus, Ohio. Corgan wrote in a recent online post that when fans see the set lists for the shows, "I don't think terms like 'hearkening back' or 'sentimental' will be the words that will come to mind. This tour is a celebration of where we are, not where we've been . . . Enjoy it if you will, we realize it's not for everybody."

The band's new single, "G.L.O.W.", was written especially for the newly released Guitar Hero: World Tour video game.

The PUMPKINS will issue a documentary and concert DVD called "If It All Goes Wrong" on November 11. As for the group's next studio effort, Corgan says they'll begin recording a "long-ranging concept album" early next year.
