SOTHIS Announces New Bassist

October 16, 2008

Los Angeles-based black metal band SOTHIS has issued the following update:

"We began running ads looking for a bassist sometime around the beginning of summer and we are happy to announce that we have found a new bassist. He is Keres [see photo below] and is a local Southern California metalhead. You'll know exactly why we chose Keres the first time you see and hear him on stage with us. We don't think there could be a more perfect fit for us. We are really looking forward to writing and recording our sophomore album with him.

"All this having been said, we'd like to thank all of the other people that came out and auditioned with us over the past few months. We cannot begin to tell you how much we appreciate you taking the time to learn some of our material and for considering us to join you in your quest as metal musicians. Each of you brought something to the table that made making this decision very hard for us.

"If you are in the Southern California area you can see Keres in action when we play the Knitting Factory on October 18 or November 23. Expect many more shows to be announced shortly."

SOTHIS drummer Dross and producer Andy La Rocque (KING DIAMOND guitarist) — who mixed SOTHIS' recently released album, "De Oppresso Liber", at his studio in Sweden — are featured in an in-depth mixing board discussion on the CD shot on location at La Rocque's Sonic Train Studios in Varberg. Watch the five-minute chat below.

SOTHIS recently filmed a video for the title track of "De Oppresso Liber". The clip was shot in Los Angeles with director Joe Suarez, who has previously worked with KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, AS I LAY DYING and EVANESCENCE, among others.
Dross says of "De Oppresso Liber", "If you are into aggressive, polished black metal that is well executed then you're going to love 'De Oppresso Liber'. We've been able to capture some incredible performances and couple them with some very talented engineers. We wanted to make a record that we would be genuinely proud of and we've accomplished that."

A fixture on the Los Angeles area, SOTHIS released through independent channels its four-song mini-album in late 2004. A regional tour was set up with performances throughout the Southwest; the shows inspiring two limited-release DVDs that capture the band's impressive stage personnae.
