STARZ Drummer's House Catches Fire

January 9, 2006

According to online reports, there was a fire at STARZ drummer Joe Dube's house Friday night (Jan. 6). "Everyone is safe but apparently the house and its contents are a total loss," reads an online posting from Dube's friend. "Much STARZ gear was being stored there including original Marshalls and the logo. Seems Dube's drums and a few other things in the basement might be OK. It is all pretty sketchy but at least all five, who were sleeping and were woken up by the sound of the garage roof collapsing, are OK. . . Sadly, Mr. Sugar (Dube's cat) passed away of smoke inhalation at the age of 7. Sweet cat, a really cudly, lap cat, snow white. Dube's son had to be rescued from a second-floor window, the smoke was so bad (and toxic). So this was a pretty traumatic event in the middle of a cold night."

STARZ are widely considered to have been one of only a handful of bands that were daring enough to play hard rock and heavy metal music during the Seventies (when disco and punk were the rage). The band recorded four studio albums — "Starz", "Violation", "Attention Shoppers", and "Colesium Rock" — and gathered critical acclaim with their ability to mesh pop melodies with heavy guitars.
