STEVE VAI Performs At Brother's Restaurant; Photos Available

June 22, 2007

Legendary guitarist Steve Vai played a special gig on May 11 at the Schaumburg, Illinois restaurant Entourage, which is owned by his brother Michael. Check out pictures from photographer Cindy Kurman at this location.

A few days prior to the concert, Steve Vai told the Arlington Heights Post about the show, "It's special for many reasons, one of which is the event, but for me the most important thing is that I get to see my brother. Events come and go, but my love for him dwarfs any event."

Michael summed up his feelings succinctly: "I have a seven-disc CD changer in my car, and six of them are Steve's."

Born and raised in Carle Place, Long Island, N.Y., the Vai brothers grew up with a father who worked in the restaurant/bar business and as a liquor distributor.

"He always gave us work when we were young, bus boy, whatever was needed," said Michael. "I stuck with it whereas Steve loved music. A master chef recommended I study cooking, and helped me by sponsoring me for the Culinary Institute of America."

Asked who concocted the notion of a rock show with his celebrity brother, Michael said: "It was my idea, because every time I said my name, someone would ask, 'Vai? Steve Vai's brother?'" he said. "And I kept telling Steve that there were so many people that would love to see him in this setting."
