STONE TEMPLE PILOTS: More Footage From Last Month's Press Conference/Concert Available

May 13, 2008

STONE TEMPLE PILOTS have updated the "Media" section of their official web site with interview and performance footage from the band's April 7, 2008 press conference and concert for about 350 people at the former Hollywood Hills estate of magician Harry Houdini. Check it out at this location. The event might be released as part of a DVD.

"This is home for us," guitarist Dean DeLeo told MTV.com after the band announced it would be heading out this summer on a full-fledged, 65-date reunion run. "I'm fond of our legacy, and I'm fond of our band I'm a fan. I get off when I'm riding down the highway and an STP track comes on the radio. I get off on that."

"The story's not finished," Scott Weiland told The Associated Press. "There's more to be revealed and more to be told."

Bassist Robert DeLeo said the band plans to record a new album after the tour, which is set to wrap in November.

"The whole record machine is fucked up now, so we really want to get to a place of having some freedom, because we have a lot of leverage," Weiland told MTV.com. "We have sold almost 40 million records, and we're in a position of power. We want to be free agents, whether it's putting our records out ourselves, or doing some interesting, very creative deal with a nontraditional major record label. The system as it is now ... that formula does not work. We've seen it; we'll need to do things differently, do things wiser."

According to Robert DeLeo, the band has already started crafting material, and he anticipates they'll probably end up writing 100 songs before tracking the effort. The band wouldn't comment on the record beyond that, according to MTV.com.

Robert DeLeo told The Pulse of Radio that the group plans to reacquaint itself and its fans with STP's previous five albums first. "I think new material will come probably after this tour, but I think getting back to the things that got us together, the songs and the material and the reasons we got together in the first place, I think, is a strong place to start, and just make this something that is enjoyable for everyone," he said. "Enjoyable for us, enjoyable for the fans, enjoyable for people that are coming to the show."
