SURMA To Release Debut EP In September

SURMA is the name of a new San Francisco-based "stoner rock" band featuring Jessi Knop of Milwaukee's WRECKER on rhythm guitar and lead vocals, Kelsey Guntharp on bass/vocals, Johann Zamora (ex-HIGH TONE SON OF A BITCH, TOTIMOSHI) on drums/vocals and Jason James (DAMNWEEVIL, SECRET ORDER OF TUSK) on lead guitar/vocals. The name comes from a Finnish term for sudden, violent death taken from the mythological Finnish beast-guardian of the gates of the Underworld who swallowed whole the living souls of mortals. SURMA's high-energy, heavy stoner trip assaults onlookers with riffage reminiscent of QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE, BLACK SABBATH, FU MANCHU and CLUTCH combined with intense, growling lead female vocals and quick time changes. A three-song debut EP is scheduled for release in September.
