Surviving POST MORTEM Members Want To Keep Singer's Legacy Alive
February 6, 2009Dave Wedge of BostonHerald.com reports that John McCarthy, the singer for '80s Boston punk metal pioneers POST MORTEM, died suddenly two weeks ago in his apartment in Athol. The 40-year-old singer suffered from diabetes, but an autopsy is being conducted to determine the cause of death, his family said.
"We want to just keep John's legacy alive," said POST MORTEM guitarist and McCarthy's lifelong friend John Alexander. "He was a very creative, original guy. He was a great artist. We complemented each other well. A certain part of you is gone. Forty is way too young."
The band had the music completed for a new disc and McCarthy was planning to record vocals this month at a studio in Seattle, where Alexander now lives. McCarthy had written lyrics for six of the 11 songs.
"He never made it out here," Alexander said. "I haven't seen him since the last time we played together in the mid-'90s, but we talked regularly on the phone, four times a week."

POST MORTEM was formed on March 22, 1982, in the outskirts of Boston, Massachusetts. The definitive lineup was finally settled on in early 1985 consisting of John McCarthy (vocals),John Alexander (guitar),Mark Kelley (bass) and Rick McIver (drums).
