TOMMY LEE Creates Rocking Fashion For Kids
December 8, 2006According to Fibre2Fashion, MÖTLEY CRÜE drummer Tommy Lee has decided to add a brand new line for children to his "Peoples Liberation for Tommy Lee" (PL for TL) clothing line that features T-shirts, jeans, hats and hoodies with dragon motifs.
Lee, who has two boys with ex-wife, "Baywatch" bombshell Pamela Anderson, says that he was extremely excited about this project.
He also stressed that he was fashion fanatic and would love to venture into women’s wear as well.
Lee attended the launch of "Peoples Liberation for Tommy Lee" at the Bloomingdale's West Coast flagship store in San Francisco, California on November 16. Check out pictures from WENN, Film Magic, and Wire Image.
Lee told Fashion Wire Daily that "TL for PL" is all about his famous tattoos. But he admitted that the idea didn't exactly come to him in a vision; he needed a little bit of encouragement to branch out from rock and roll to fashion.
"To tell you the truth I met with Danny [Guez, the CEO of People's Liberation], and I didn't really know what to think," said Lee. "We started talking and he's just a super cool guy and he was like, 'Why don't you do something totally fun that's inspired by your tattoos and make it you, make it totally you and personal? Yet also make it for just about anyone to wear.' So we met a few times and started taking pictures of my tattoos and putting them on different places on the jeans and designing them. All of a sudden one day we were sitting there looking at a bunch of samples going, 'Wow, this is cool!'"
The result is a line of jeans, t-shirts, hats, and hoodies with sections of Lee's numerous tattoos — from stars to koi to dragons — artfully placed, making non-tattooed fans feel like a part of the rock 'n roll gestalt that Lee embodies.
"I lost count a long time ago of how many I have," Lee laughed. "They're all beautiful things. I love animals, and so there is everything from koi fish to leopards. There are cherry blossoms. I love flowers. There are dragons. There is fire and water. These are things that I will always love to look at, and hopefully people will love to wear."
