TORA TORA: Memphis Concert To Be Recorded
February 22, 2010TORA TORA's March 6 concert at the Minglewood Hall in Memphis, Tennessee will be recorded and made available for purchase at the end of the night. The band states, "Come on out, bring your friends, and be ready to make some serious noise!"
FnA Records recentky secured the exclusive rights to release three albums from the TORA TORA — "Bombs Away: The Unreleased Surprise Attack Recordings", "Miss B. Havin': The Unreleased Wild America Recordings" and "Before & After". The first two releases consist of demos that were recorded during the band's major label days (A&M Records; 1989-1992),while the album "Before & After" comprises material from the group's mega-rare independent EP that was released in 1987 prior to TORA TORA being signed, demo tracks written for the band's never-released third album, and the original recording of the band's smash hit "Walkin Shoes".
TORA TORA started out as a local garage band then eventually got studio time when they won a local Battle of the Bands contest. Following this, the band recorded "To Rock To Roll" as an independent EP. After its release, the songs "Phantom Rider" and "Love's A Bitch" received extensive airplay on local radio station Rock 98. A deal with A&M Records followed, and the band recorded its debut album, "Surprise! Attack", in 1989. This LP peaked on Billboard's Top 200 at #47. The single "Dancing With A Gypsy" was on the soundtrack for the film "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure" later that year. In 1992, TORA TORA's second album, "Wild America", was released. It only achieved #134 on the Billboard chart and it did not sell as well, but it was a more mature step at songwriting. A third album, "Revolution Day", was recorded in 1994, but it was never released due to label restructuring.
