Truck Kills Illinois Man Leaving OZZFEST

August 15, 2007

IndyStar.com reports that an Illinois man died Tuesday night while walking outside the Verizon Wireless Music Center in Indianapolis, Indiana after the Ozzfest concert.

Danne D. Buchanan, 41, of Fisher, Ill., was walking south on Boden Road just north of 156th Street about 11:30 p.m. when he was struck by a 1993 Ford F-150 truck driven by Jerry R. Cook, 50, of Oakland City, Ind.

Hamilton County Sheriff Maj. Mark Bowen said in a press release that Cook was driving south on Boden Road on his way to the amphitheater to pick up a family member at the free concert, which 18,467 people attended.

Cook stated that he did not see either Buchanan or David Wall, also of Fisher, because the men who were walking together wore dark clothing. Cook also told officers that he was blinded by the headlights from the full lane of northbound traffic on Boden Road.

Cook's truck struck Buchanan causing severe head and internal injuries, Bowen said. Buchanan was pronounced dead at the scene.

Bowen said neither alcohol nor drugs are suspected as being a contributing factor to the accident. However, the Crash Investigation Team continues to investigate the incident.
