Video: AEROSMITH's JOE PERRY Talks About Geoffrey Beene Cancer Research Center

November 29, 2012

The Geoffrey Beene Foundation has launches its 2012 Rock Stars Of Science campaign to honor leading scientists and next generation researchers at the Geoffrey Beene Cancer Research Center at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) in New York.

Joe Perry, AEROSMITH guitar legend and Rock Stars Of Science founding father, just off the band's acclaimed The Global Warming Tour, solos with the Geoffrey Beene Cancer Research Center "Dream Team" in the six-page GQ profile. Perry, who once dreamed of being a scientist, is featured touring the Geoffrey Beene Cancer Research Center labs, a high tech proving ground for cancer-research innovation.

"Rock stars don't follow orders; they follow their instincts. That same philosophy is behind the world's most revolutionary medical research at the Geoffrey Beene Cancer Research Center," says G. Thompson Hutton, Trustee & CEO, Geoffrey Beene Foundation and President and CEO of Geoffrey Beene, LLC. "We are extremely gratified for the dramatic breakthroughs our funding is supporting."

"It's such important work," says Perry, "I don't know anyone who doesn't have a parent or a friend who doesn't have cancer. It's a plague. It's not a matter of if you'll get it but when." Joe's father died of cancer.

Featured senior researchers include: Craig B. Thompson, M.D., President & CEO, MSKCC; Larry Norton, M.D., Deputy Physician-in-Chief, Breast Cancer Programs, MSKCC; Scott Lowe, Ph.D., Geoffrey Beene Senior Chair, MSKCC; (All Geoffrey Beene CRC Executive Committee). Junior researchers: Andrea Ventura, M.D., Ph.D., Geoffrey Beene Junior Chair, MSKCC; Cancer Biology and Genetics Program; Ping Chi, M.D., Ph.D., Geoffrey Beene Junior Chair, MSKCC; Human Oncology and Pathogenesis Program; Johanna Joyce, Ph.D., former Geoffrey Beene Junior Chair, MSKCC; Cancer Biology and Genetics Program;

In addition to the December GQ's "Men Of The Year" edition, Rock Stars Of Science, found at GeoffreyBeene.com, offers behind-the-scenes footage and exclusive interviews from Joe Perry's visit to the Geoffrey Beene Cancer Research Center.

A 13-minute video clip in which Perry and Craig B. Thompson, M.D. talk after Joe toured the Geoffrey Beene Cancer Research Center labs at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center can be seen below. Joe and several research scientists shot a layout for GQ's December "Men Of The Year" issue that day as well.
