Video: METALLICA Bassist ROBERT TRUJILLO's MASS MENTAL Project Plays Whisky A Go-Go
August 27, 2014METALLICA bassist Robert Trujillo resurrected his MASS MENTAL project for a couple of appearances in late August and early September. The first show took place last night (Tuesday, August 26) at the Whisky A Go-Go in West Hollywood, California and will be followed by a performance at Warwick in Markneukirchen, Germany. The second concert will be held on Saturday, September 6 on the Framus & Warwick grounds, during the Warwick Open Day 2014, the crowning conclusion of the Bass Camp. MASS MENTAL will hit Warwick's open-air stage at 5:45 p.m.

There are just some bands who stand out from the crowd, and then there are those few who are absolutely out of this world. Without question, MASS MENTAL is such a monster of an act.
MASS MENTAL was founded in 1998 by Trujillo, formerly of SUICIDAL TENDENCIES, along with SKINDRED singer Clive "Benji" Webbe, formerly of DUB WAR. In 1999, the band released "How To Write Love Songs", along with the live album "Live In Tokyo". Both CDs were made available exclusively in Japan. Shortly thereafter, MASS MENTAL broke up, allowing the bandmembers to return to their main projects. In 2002, MASS MENTAL reunited briefly with Roy Mayorga (STONE SOUR, SOULFLY) playing drums, although no new material resulted.
MASS MENTAL's lineup for the Whisky A Go-Go and Warwick Open Day 2014 shows is as follows:
* Benji Webbe (SKINDRED) - Lead Vocals
* Robert Trujillo (METALLICA, SUICIDAL TENDENCIES) - Bass
* Armand Sabal-Lecco (PAUL SIMON) - Bass
* Ken Schalk (CANDIRIA) - Drums
* Whitfield Crane (UGLY KID JOE, ANOTHER ANIMAL) - Lead Vocals (special guest)
In many ways, these are once-in-a-lifetime events: Robert Trujillo is normally with METALLICA 365 days a year. Since all these musicians are constantly on tour or in the studio, it was no small feat for all of them to appear under one roof for the Warwick Open Day. However, since Robert Trujillo places so much worth on MASS MENTAL, he was able to make it happen.
