WEILAND, Ex-GUNS N' ROSES Members To Use Own Names In Upcoming Film

STONE TEMPLE PILOTS frontman Scott Weiland and ex-GUNS N' ROSES members Slash (guitar),Duff McKagan (bass),and Matt Sorum (drums) are going by their individual names and not an overall band moniker for the combo's cover of PINK FLOYD's "Money", a spokesperson has told Billboard.com. The track will appear in the film "The Italian Job", which arrives May 30 in U.S. theaters. It is not known if a commercial soundtrack will be released.

An original song, "Set Me Free", will appear in the upcoming film adaptation of "The Hulk", which debuts June 20 in U.S. theaters. The cut will appear only in the film and not on the Decca/UMG soundtrack, which is comprised solely of Danny Elfman's score. The album is due June 17.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the new group, which was operating under the working name "THE PROJECT", has sent an official statement to BLABBERMOUTH.NET reiterating that "no overall agreement between Scott and the band has been reached yet regarding Scott joining the band. We expect to be able to announce a decision very soon, and will issue an official press release at that time. Until then, hold your horses, and hang in there with us!!"

The new group had been searching for a frontman for several months. In addition to Weiland, vocalists known to have tried out for the singer position in the band include Sebastian Bach (ex-SKID ROW),Kelly Shaefer (ex-NEUROTICA, ATHEIST),Travis Meeks (DAYS OF THE NEW),Mike Matijevic (STEELHEART),Pat Briggs (PSYCHOTICA),A. Jay Popoff (LIT),and Joshua Todd (ex-BUCKCHERRY). The five-piece group also includes ex-LOADED/WASTED YOUTH guitarist Dave Kushner.
