I've been chuckling to myself about "Horns of the Wasted" for months now. Talk about not taking yourself too seriously, Hungary's DRÜNKEN BASTARDS couldn't be less serious about lyrics to songs like "Drink with Satan" and the comically absurd "Alcoholic Big Tits". Now the music, that's another matter. "Horns of the Wasted" is a whirlwind of blackened party thrash and punk where the need for speed is paramount, the sound is vintage '80s, and the riffing is hazardous to one's health. You can't ask for much more out of a thrash album.

So forget about retro-thrash trends and elitist comments over the lack of originality. "Horns of the Wasted" is a hot shot of whiskey and amphetamines, downed amidst drunken revelers in the middle of an apartment building fire. Yeah, nobody gives a single shit until the flames reach the stereo system. Inebriated, venom-dripping vocals and riffs written as though life itself depended on them, songs run the gamut from MOTÖRHEAD thrashing ("Toxic Patrol") to nihilistic British punk ("Destroy the Factory", complete with a Fast Eddie Clarke-style solo) to a little bit of both with a splash of VENOM ("Alcoholic Big Tits"). Riff after riff rattles the spine and chips the teeth, the six-string rager heard on "Prophecy of the Evening Star" burning hottest of all. The EP should come with a flame-retardant jumpsuit.

Equal parts German and American thrash with all the punk fixings, "Horns of the Wasted" allows the listener no time for boredom and every reason to wreck, get wrecked, and fuck off. What's to nitpick? Get a life.
