MEGADETH's KIKO LOUREIRO Teaches You How To Play 'Poisonous Shadows' Guitar Solo (Video)

May 7, 2019

Video footage of MEGADETH guitarist Kiko Loureiro teaching you how to play the guitar solo in the band's song "Poisonous Shadows" can be seen below. The track features piano playing from Loureiro as well as orchestration from famed Nashville arranger Ronn Huff, the father of former MEGADETH producer Dann Huff. MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine described the track to Rolling Stone as "a really haunting piece" and added that "the part that [Kiko] played is very Chopin-meets-MEGADETH, if that makes sense."

"Poisonous Shadows" is taken from MEGADETH's latest album, "Dystopia", which came out in January 2016. The disc shifted 49,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in its first week of release. In terms of pure album sales, "Dystopia" opened with 48,000 copies, marking MEGADETH's highest-charting album since 1992's "Countdown To Extinction" debuted and peaked at No. 2 on the chart dated August 1 of that year. "Dystopia" also logged the group's best sales week since 2007, when "United Abominations" landed at No. 8 with first-week sales of 54,000.

In addition to Mustaine and Loureiro, MEGADETH's current lineup includes longtime bassist David Ellefson and former SOILWORK drummer Dirk Verbeuren.

MEGADETH is working on material for the follow-up to "Dystopia" for a tentative 2020 release.
