ANDREW W.K. Talks About His MTV2 Show
May 19, 2004ANDREW W.K. recently spoke to the New York Post about his new show "Your Friend, Andrew W.K.", which premieres Saturday (May 22) on MTV2.
"The whole point of this show is that it's not focused just on me," said W.K.
"This is also a show to honor everyone who doesn't get a TV show," he added. "So that when you're watching, not only do you say to yourself, 'Hey, I could be on this TV show,' you actually are on the TV show or your friend is on or you see someone you can relate to."
"I have no qualifications, whatsoever, to be giving anybody advice," W.K. admitted. "But since people ask me for advice, I want to do my best to answer it. I'm going to use my own experience and basic logic to give [viewers] the best help that I can muster.
"The thought is that we can talk about things and look at things that will allow the [viewers] to approach challenges with their own ingenuity."
In the premiere, for which W.K. and his producers chose 12 questions from 2,500 e-mails, W.K. comes to the aid of a guy who throws a party when his parents aren't home and things get out-of-hand. To top that off, the guy cheats on his girlfriend — at the party.
"A guy says to me, 'I really messed up ... I want to cook [my parents] a really nice dinner, can you come over and give me a hand?' And I'll say, 'Sure,' and we'll drive out to their house and help them cook," W.K. said.
"I'm not the world's greatest cook, but I know that together we can at least make spaghetti or something and that’s what it’s about, knowing that as a viewer there are other people going through what you’re going through. That's going to be a very good feeling."
"Your Friend, Andrew W.K." premieres on Saturday, May 22 at 9:00 p.m. on MTV2.
