SEPULTURA have issued an official statement regarding the article that appeared in this week's issue of the Brazilian magazine Veja, in which the story's author, Sergio Martins, all but dismissed the group as a band on its 'last legs' following SEPULTURA's recent split with longtime label Roadrunner Records (as reported here yesterday). Here is SEPULTURA's response to the article in its entirety:

...

“The Brazilian magazine Veja published this week [July 22nd] an article by Sergio Martins about SEPULTURA. The subject is the end of the contract with Roadrunner Records and the content of the article is untruthful and one-sided.

...

“With the help of the fans, SEPULTURA ended the contract and are now free and strong to grow with other label's support. The truth is the opposite from what was published by the magazine.

...

“Right now the band is in Brazil after their successful four-month tour across the USA and Europe. SEPULTURA is already confirmed to play in big festivals in Spain, Japan and Korea. This doesn't sound like the end of their international career as the magazine said they've reached.

...

“We count on the support of the fans to make things clear to the magazine, you can express yourself by writing to [email protected]

Contrary to what is being reported by other Internet sources, the digipack version of MACHINE HEAD's forthcoming Supercharger CD will NOT contain a new recording of the band's cover of the BLACK SABBATH classic “Hole In The Sky”, but will instead include the same version of the song that appeared on the Nativity In Black II tribute album to SABBATH that was issued through Divine/Priority Recordings in June of last year. Other tracks that are set to appear on the digipack CD include Supercharger outtakes “Rat Race” and “Ten Fold”.

SLIPKNOT will be shooting a video for the first single off their upcoming Iowa CD, entitled 'Left Behind', in Los Angeles, CA in early August. The clip is expected to premiere prior to the August 28th release of the new album, which is expected to be the first release via Roadrunner's new joint venture with Island/Def Jam Records. 'Left Behind' impacts at radio on August 14th.

SKINLAB's forthcoming tHE reVOLTINGROOM&gt&gtdISTURBING tHE aRT oF eXPRESSION&lt&lt CD has had its release date pushed back to January 22nd, 2002. SKINLAB will be traveling to the East Coast in mid-August to begin mixing the effort at producer Steve Evetts' New Jersey recording studio, as well as to perform a special set at the WSOU 15th Anniversary show, which is scheduled to take place on Sunday, August 19th (see press release below).

Once-promising Swedish melodic deathsters GARDENIAN have sadly split up. No details are presently available on the individual members' future plans.

In a recent interview with rightupfront.com, former EARTH CRISIS frontman Karl Buechner revealed the details of his new band. Dubbed NEMESIS, Karl's new project also features in its ranks former EARTH CRISIS bassist Bulldog and guitarist Erick Edwards, as well as ex-SANTA SANGRE drummer Corey Koniz, and the group's musical direction is being described as having the aggression of EARTH CRISIS' last CD Slither, but featuring far more melody than anything Buechner had previously done. Karl is also currently working on an industrial project, while the other members of EARTH CRISIS, guitarist Scott Crause and drummer Dennis Merrick, have reportedly started a new band and will be moving to New York City. NEMESIS is presently in the process of demoing material and they appear to be at least several months away from shopping around for a record deal for the release of their future recordings, with the group's first CD not expected to emerge before the beginning of 2002 at the earliest.

Sweden's ARCH ENEMY (featuring German vocalist Angela Gossow) have been added to the list of bands performing at the Beast Feast Festival, which is scheduled to take place on August 25th and 26th at the 30,000-capacity Yokohama Arena in Yokohama, Japan. ARCH ENEMY will be performing on the 25th and will be taking the stage before V.O.D., STATIC-X, SEPULTURA and SLAYER, who are also scheduled to perform on the same day. Other artists that have been confirmed for Beast Feast include PANTERA, MACHINE HEAD, BIOHAZARD, ONE MINUTE SILENCE and MORBID ANGEL. For a complete list of the acts performing at the festival, click here.

Germany's DKAY.COM, featuring former DIE KRUPPS mainman Jurgen Engler, are locked away at a recording studio in Austin, Texas working on a new album, tentatively entitled Deeper Into The Heart Of Dysfunction, which is due to be completed in September for an early 2002 release. Meanwhile, the band have contributed a new version of the PRODIGY track “Firestarter” to an upcoming PRODIGY tribute album, and plans exist for the group to do several shows in the U.S., Mexico, and possible Germany and France before the release of the next CD.

According to KISS' official web site, Kissonline, KISS bassist/vocalist Gene Simmons “has just finished having meetings with DC Comics' Mike Carlin about a proposed Superman-meets-KISS four-issue crossover, a story idea that Gene came up with. When Gene called DC to initiate the idea, they came back and asked for a KISS-versus-Lobo team-up. All these ideas are currently being developed... stay tuned...'

Sweden's BORN OF FIRE, featuring ENTOMBED drummer Peter Stjärnvind, UNLEASHED guitarist Freddie Eugene, DISMEMBER bassist Richard Cabeza and guitarist/vocalist Mr. Dim, are working on the material for their debut album, which is tentatively scheduled to be released through Primitive Art Records at the end of the year.

“Pretending”, the first single from H.I.M.'s forthcoming Deep Shadows And Brilliant Highlights CD, has dropped down to position #29 in the German single charts. Meanwhile, the single has retained the #1 position in the group's native Finland, and it has also reached #1 in Poland's radio charts. As previously reported, H.I.M. are due to make their US live debut at Philadeplhia's Trocadero Theatre on Sunday, August 19th.

MISFITS guitarist Doyle has issued the following statement explaining his absence from the group's recent appearances at the Warped Tour and the upcoming 25th Anniversary shows in South America: 'I'm going through a divorce and I have to take time off to deal with family issues and straighten out my personal life. Right now, this is a priority for me.'

MEGADETH - PUBLIC ENEMY NUMBER ONE!

BANNED FROM PERFORMING IN MALAYSIA BY GOVERNMENT

BAND'S IMAGERY DEEMED 'UNSUITABLE' FOR YOUTH

RECORDS CONFISCATED OFF STORE SHELVES

...

It's gratifying to know that rock 'n' roll still has the power to shock and frighten world governments. On July 23, 2001, it was learned that metal legends MEGADETH have been banned from performing in the Southeast Asia nation of Malaysia.

...

MEGADETH was scheduled to promote their Sanctuary Records album The World Needs A Hero by playing at the Warp Club on August 2 in Kuala Lumpur, the Malaysian capital. However, the Malaysian government stepped in and canceled the concert. Malayasian authorities say that MEGADETH's imagery, specifically the band's famous skeleton mascot 'Vic Rattlehead', is unsuitable for the youth of Malaysia. Summarily, the government refused to grant work permits to the band and crew.

...

If MEGADETH defied the government and went ahead and performed in Kuala Lumpur, it was made clear the band would be arrested and their own personal safety could not be guaranteed!

...

In addition, MEGADETH records have now been confiscated off store shelves! Sanctuary has now been prohibited from shipping copies of The World Needs A Hero into Malaysia to fill retailers' inventory.

...

'MEGADETH is very disappointed that they won't be able to perform for their fans in Malaysia,' stated MEGADETH manager Larry Mazer. 'I'm sure MEGADETH fans in Malaysia are equally disappointed. Hopefully, the political climate will change so that one day MEGADETH may return to Malaysia to play for their fans who have waited a long time to see them in person.'

...

MEGADETH is scheduled to come back home to the United States this fall to continue its highly successful world tour for The World Needs A Hero. MEGADETH has sold more than 20 million records worldwide and earned seven Grammy Award nominations since forming in 1983.

BIOHAZARD drummer Danny Schuler has posted the following update on the band's recent activities on the group's official web site at www.biohazard.com:

...

“What up BIOPEOPLE!! I know it's been awhile since we posted anything new on the site, as you can see we still haven't completely fixed the problem(s)...

...

“I hope this little update will suffice....

...

“On June 30th, we played in Holland at the 'Waldrock' festival. Now, for us, going back to Holland is like walking into Mom's house, we always feel at home there. It's been a while since we played a big fest in the Netherlands, and Waldrock was a great opportunity to see some old friends, play with some great bands, and rock with 20,000 real music fans.

...

“We flew in the day of the festival, got to our hotel, slept an hour or two, and waited for the adrenaline to kick in. When we finally got to the festival, we only had about 3 hours till showtime. Feeling the vibe there, we knew it was gonna be a great night.

...

“While watching SUICIDAL TENDENCIES (they went on right before us, DEFTONES headlined) from the side of the stage, I realized a great disservice has been done to this legendary band. After all these years, they were better than ever!! Mike Muir has proven himself time and time again to be one of the most dynamic and hard-working frontmen in hard music today, yet this band has to fight everyday for the respect they deserve. What a shame...

...

SUICIDAL finished their show and it was our turn to rock the crowd. During rehearsals the week before we left, we thought of a new set list highlighting the classics from every CD we've done. Unfortunately, we had less than an hour to play 30 or so songs, so something had to give.....

...

“We decided on playing all the classics we could fit, along with 2 new songs from our new album Uncivilization which comes out in Sept. We played 'HFFK' and the title track, 'Uncivilization'. Never having played these on Dutch soil before, we hoped they would go over well. Needless to say, the crowd seemed to love it all, with 'HFFK' one of the highlights of the set.

...

“After the show was over, it was time to party!! We were all looking forward to seeing the DEFTONES and hanging out with our friends. Unfortunately, during our set, the singer from DEFTONES was beat up by security backstage! We couldn't believe that the security didn't recognize him! We all saw him puking and stumbling around backstage and wondered how he was gonna do the show. They went on stage and ROCKED!

...

“We hung out and had a great time with lots of our Dutch friends and are looking forward to the TATTOO THE EARTH tour that'll bring us back to Holland in September. Hopefully we'll see you all then. Peace. Danny /BIOHAZARD

METALLIBASH 2001 TO BE HELD AS PLANNED

...

Pittsburgh, July 23, 2001 -- Despite the most recent chapter of adversity in METALLICA History, the organizers of the first-ever MetalliBash have decided that with our thoughts and prayers for the band and ailing frontman James Hetfield, the show will go on.

...

MetalliBash 2001 is an event only METALLICA fans could put together: an evening in San Francisco's Maritime Hall to show their love and devotion for a band that has, undoubtedly, been facing its hardest year yet.

...

To be held September 1, 2001, the MetalliBash is only for members of the METALLICA Club and their direct guests. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Bradshaw Mountain Wildlife Association, an organization owned and run by METALLICA wardrobe coordinator, Alie Amato. Tickets, available through the MetalliBash website, are going quickly and will only be sold for a limited time. No tickets will be available at the venue the day of the event.

...

The night will feature, among other things, a raffle of the new action figures created by McFarlane Toys as well as one-of-a-kind METALLICA Art from noted artist Mark DeVito. METALLICA Tribute band CREEPING DEATH will close the night out in style, and event organizers remain optimistic that members of METALLICA will put in a cameo appearance.

...

Other sponsors for the event include bandwear.com -- the makers of the one-of-a-kind t-shirts -- and Tama Drums.

...

For up-to-the-minute information, keep an eye on the official web site: www.MetalliBash.com
