10,000 Attend LOCOBAZOOKA; Few Problems Reported

Kyle Alspach of Sentinel & Enterprise is reporting that roughly 10,000 people attended the third annual Locobazooka concert in Fitchburg, Massachusetts on Sunday (Sept. 18),but police and city officials reported few problems.

Though the music was blaring, things were quiet for emergency and security personnel during the concert at Fitchburg Municipal Airport.

Officials reported three minor injuries, two noise complaints and one arrest for alcohol intoxication at the day-long event.

"As far as we're concerned, it's been no problem," said Deputy Fire Chief Michael Spano, incident commander for the event.

Last year's concert attracted between 12,000 and 13,000 fans, according to concert promoter Dan Hartwell, owner of 3-D Entertainment.

Hartwell estimated about 10,000 people attended this year's event.

Three people went to the hospital for mosh pit-related injuries, but none were serious, said Robert Cumming, district manager for Patriot Ambulance.

"It's been slower for us this year," said Cumming, who has overseen ambulance service for each of the Locobazooka events.

Mayor Dan H. Mylott welcomed the crowd before the start of the concert at 10 a.m., and walked the concert grounds for 40 minutes in the afternoon.

Mylott said he also drove through some of the abutting neighborhoods to see if noise was a problem.

"The noise seemed to be reasonable," he said. "Things seemed to be going on pretty well overall."

Fitchburg Police Lt. Linda Swears said the police received two noise complaints from Leominster residents around 7 a.m.

Sgt. Ernest Martineau said he did not know of any other noise complaints during the day.

Police arrested one individual for intoxication with alcohol, and put the person into protective custody for four to eight hours, Martineau said.

The day-long event featured 51 bands, including national acts such as DISTURBED, DOPE and MUSHROOMHEAD.
