CHRIS CORNELL To Perform New JAMES BOND Theme Song?

July 21, 2006

MI6.co.uk reports that AUDIOSLAVE/ex-SOUNDGARDEN frontman Chris Cornell has told a Finnish newspaper that he has written the theme song to the 21st James Bond film "Casino Royale".

Cornell will also perform the title track. This would make him the first male lead vocalist to perform a 007 song since A-HA in 1987 for "The Living Daylights".

He was quoted as saying (translated),"I haven't seen the new Bond fully, because it is still being edited, but I have seen several clips of it. Absolutely amazing movie. Very different than earlier Bonds."

Songs written by Chris Cornell have been featured in several blockbusters, such as "Singles", "Collateral Damage", "Great Expectations" and "True Romance".

Cornell told AOL Music News last month that he has begun writing songs for his second solo album.

"I'm going to hopefully finish it and record before the summer's over," Cornell revealed.

When might the album see the light of the day? "Who knows?" Cornell said. "This [new AUDIOSLAVE] record comes out in September, and I don't really want the two to be fighting."

While he's unsure at this point what direction the solo album might go, a clue might come from his love for acoustic music. "When I did the first [solo album] there was definitely a bit of surprise, because people expected it was going to be more in the vein of acoustic, and it wasn't, really. I feel like the songs for this second one may be more in that direction."

AUDIOSLAVE's new single, "Original Fire", has been made available for streaming at Audioslave.com in all major streaming formats, according to Launch Radio Networks. The track comes off the group's upcoming third album, "Revelations", which is due out on September 5. The band shot a video for the track in Los Angeles on June 29. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, AUDIOSLAVE guitarist Tom Morello described the quartet's new effort as "LED ZEPPELIN meets EARTH, WIND & FIRE."

"Revelations" follows the band's second album, "Out of Exile", which came out in May of 2005 and has sold more than a million copies. The disc debuted at No. 1 on The Billboard 200.

The title track from "Revelations" will also appear on the soundtrack of "Madden NFL 2007", the latest in the red-hot video game series which arrives in stores on August 22.

AUDIOSLAVE has not yet announced tour plans in support of the new CD.
