CLUTCH Frontman Says 16 Songs Have Been Written For New Album

September 5, 2006

TheEndlessFeed.com recently conducted an interview with CLUTCH frontman Neil Fallon. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow:

TheEndlessFeed.com: So CLUTCH has been together for 16 years now. How does it feel to know CLUTCH has lasted so long when so many other bands break up every so often?

Neil: I don't really think about that too much. It certainly doesn't feel like 16 years. Maybe some bands break up because they have ridiculous expectations. We're not looking for fame and fortune, just some fun and no day jobs.

TheEndlessFeed.com: How did CLUTCH hook up with Bam Margera?

Neil: He was a fan of the band for some time before his TV career. He lives not too far away from us, so he would come out and see us play at the local. That's all there is to it.

TheEndlessFeed.com: Your sound has moved more and more towards blues with each passingalbum. Was this a concious effort to reroute your overall sound, or just a result of what you were listening to during the writing period?

Neil: Our musical inclinations are always instinctual, never overtly intentional. I suppose our tastes have changed over the years. We are more likely to listen to BUDDY GUY than MINOR THREAT, but those early hardcore and metal influences will always be there.

TheEndlessFeed.com: Your live shows are renowned for being charmismatic and entertaining. Are there any upcoming plans for a live CLUTCH DVD?

Neil: No. It is something that we have talked about for ages, but have yet to really move on. It's all a matter of finding the right people.

TheEndlessFeed.com: How are things going on the new album?

Neil: Very well. We've written about 16 tunes. We'll put out a 10- to 12-song record. In October we go out to L.A. to record with [producer] Joe Baressi. We're looking forward to that. I guess the record will be out in February or March.

TheEndlessFeed.com: What was it like working with producer Machine?

Neil: It was great. It was a good learning experience as that was the first record we had done all digitally. It was very alien to us at the time, but I'm glad we did it.
