NIKKI SIXX's 'Countdown To Normality'

August 22, 2009

MÖTLEY CRÜE bassist Nikki Sixx has issued the following update:

"I have been immersed in books again lately. Some needed reading. Some I'm just revisiting the classics. Just another reminder of the greatness that was gifted to us before we were here and will be passed on long after we have passed away… Classics, important.

"My audio book of the week is the 1931 'Brave New World' by Aldous Huxely. This classic is read by the magical Michael York…. I recommend it highly.

"Education through music and books always leaves me breathless…

"Any heady stuff to get into while I'm in the middle of planning a new (and hopefully some unnerving) future venture[s] leaves me, again breathless

"The longer I stick around, the more comfortable it feels looking into the poisonous pit where things lurk, squirm and bubble… or, as Diane Arbus once said, because it 'scares me.' There is that fine balance in music, photography etc. where you're never really sure if you're scared or scared to look away…

"So it begins, the countdown with a smile, to 'home sweet home'….

"Trust me when I say 'I love what I do' out here, there and everywhere onstage, but I am really excited about the moment I can open the doors to Funny Farm Studios [the Sixx-co-owned recording facility], so I can get out of my head what's been brewing for months. The need for the madness to unfold is exhausting. You know Warhol, Hussar and Witkins' work all had to come from their personal world, not unlike mine. They needed space to get us into creative outer space…distance between the noncreative and business world. We need to engage in all possible failures… Chance is the most important thing for artists and lovers. Or in simple terms, 'Roll the dice.'

"So as I settle into my dressing room, 10 more shows to go and thinking of all the Crüeheads who came out to Crüe Fest 2 and how they supported all the bands… head to toe, top to button, all great bands, so much fun, so much laughter. It's been a wonderful summer… in fact, a kick-ass summer, but now the countdown begins…10.

"Soon I will be 'home sweet home' with Katherine [girlfriend Kat Von D] and my family, all of us laying in the warm embrace of Los Angeles.

"Thank you for everything. I hope you've enjoyed the ride..."
